About Gregory Messner, DO

Dallas Cardiovascular Surgeons - Dr. MessnerDr. Messner joins us from Houston where he completed his cardiothoracic residency under the direction of Dr. Denton Cooley at the world renowned Texas Heart Institute. In addition to training in thoracic surgery at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Messner also has completed additional training in heart failure, mechanical assist devices and cardiac transplantation by Dr. O.H. Frazier. Dr. Messner has worked in the Cullen Cardiovascular Research Institute and published extensively in the field of cardiopulmonary transplant and mechanical assist devices. He has special expertise in the areas of coronary artery bypass surgery, thoracic surgery, valve, aneurysm, cartoid, and peripheral artery surgery including minimally invasive and off pump techniques.

Dr. Messner has professional affiliations with the the Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant, American Heart Association and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Messner, his wife Julie Messner (a pediatrician who practices in Plano) and their four children reside in Plano. In his spare time Dr. Messner has completed 4 marathons and 6 half marathons and will run in the Dallas White Rock marathon this year to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
